Broken Dental Restoration

Dental restorations can last for decades, although some may last only a few years or even less. There are many factors that affect the life of dental restorations. In some instances, they can be repaired to extend their usefulness. Almost without exception, dental work is custom made and is not usable for anyone else--not even on another tooth in the same mouth. When there are changes in the mouth, the dental work may not be useful for its intended purpose.

Because of the many variables, it is impossible to give a definitive answer, without an evaluation by a dentist, as to why the dental restoration has become broken. Sometimes a laboratory repair is possible and a technician may need to be consulted.

Finally, when dental restorations break, they should be examined in our office to avoid the potential for further damage. Attention to the problem can help alleviate the risk of unnecessary pain or other complications.
